Hands Across Mathews was recently awarded a grant for $2,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to use for food purchases or nutrition education.
The organization was one of more than 250 nonprofit agencies and community feeding partners across Food Lion’s 10-state footprint that together garnered a total of over $675,000 in grant funding, said a press release.
Mike Carone, grant administrator for Hands Across Mathews, said the organization has applied for a Food Lion Feeds grant each year for over a decade, and is never disappointed.
“We can count on it,” he said.
The foundation has “been very generous to us in the past,” said Carone, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Food Lion Feeds provided both food and volunteers from the local store to help out when Hands Across Mathews was shorthanded.
Carone said that in the award letter, Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation praised HAM for doing “tremendous work toward ending hunger.”
