Torrential rains Friday caused flooding in Mathews Court House, including on Brickbat Road, shown above blocked off because of an ongoing VDOT project to remedy storm drain/sewer line conflicts that have been impacting storm drainage. The Mathews court green was not flooded in spite of all the rain due to landscape improvements made in 2020 by the Court Green Task Force of the Mathews Main Street Committee. The improvements included grading the area and putting two rain gardens in place, along with storm drain fixtures.
