Present indications are that the fishermen will have a poor season this year due to several causes, mainly; however, the scarcity of fish. For the most the citizens of this county rely upon the fish and oyster business for an existence and in our humble judgment in this they make a serious mistake. There is no better soil in this section of the State than is to be found in Mathews, and while some of our citizens are improving their farm lands and growing “trucks” of different kinds for the market, greatly to their financial benefit, others seem to pay little or no attention to this mode of making a living.
