First Morning Star Baptist Church, Bena, has raised more than $5,000 to be donated to the Gloucester United Emergency Shelter Team (GUEST).
Church treasurer Delores Stokes said the funds were raised thanks to donations from church members, as well as local businesses throughout Gloucester.
This is the second year that First Morning Star has fully supported the GUEST shelter during the winter months. Stokes said the church has always been active in making a difference in the community and in the past has donated to other nonprofits.
In 2021, the church raised $5,000+ in donations for GUEST as well. Stokes said this year the church’s eventual goal is to raise $6,000 and is waiting for a few more donations to come in to help them reach that mark.
She said there is no deadline to donate and advised those interested in doing so to call her at 804-642-4245.
