First Morning Star Baptist Church, Bena, raised more than $4,500 to be donated to the Gloucester United Emergency Shelter Team (GUEST).
“The funds were raised through the very generous donations from First Morning Star, local businesses, family and friends on behalf of all who have given,” said church treasurer Deloris Stokes. “It is greatly appreciated and may God bless each of you.” This year’s donation totaled $4,558.
Each year, the church raises money for GUEST to assist in keeping the area’s homeless population safe from the elements. This is the third year that First Morning Star has fully supported the GUEST shelter program during the winter months.
In addition to the funds raised by Stokes, the church has donated coats and toiletries to benefit the homeless population, under the leadership of Deacon Edward Washington.
There is no deadline to donate; those interested in doing so can reach out to Stokes at 804-642-4245.
