“We are not in a good place that I’d like to see us economically growing and thriving. We are worse off than we were three years ago.”
Gloucester County Administrator Carol Steele made those comments as she, along with Chief Financial Officer Maria Calloway and Public Utilities Director Katey Legg, presented on the difficult budgetary decisions facing the county for fiscal year 2026 during the Gloucester Board of Supervisors’ budget work session Monday evening in the colonial courthouse.
Among the difficult decisions discussed were how to fund construction of a new Gloucester Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad Station 1, meeting the additional funding requests from the Gloucester County School Board, and addressing the utilities fund’s borrowing needs to complete necessary projects.
