A fire Sunday evening destroyed a home in the 10200 block of Burkes Pond Road.
Members of Gloucester Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the scene around 9 p.m. Arriving on scene first was Lieutenant 17 Jeff Grigsby. Assistant Chief for Station 4, Robert Yeager, said that the fire occurred to a “1,200 square foot small rancher.”
All together there were 54 people on scene including mutual aid from the Mathews Volunteer Fire Department, Abingdon Fire and Rescue and Hartfield Fire Department. Units included six engines, three tankers, one rescue truck and one medic unit.
Yeager said that there were three people in the home, a mother, father and their daughter. There were also three cats in the home. He said that all the people made it out safely with no injuries and they were able to find only two of the cats, who made it out, and could not find the third.
