The Mathews Market Days Committee has made the decision to cancel this year’s poster signing event, which had been scheduled for this Saturday, Aug. 28.
Posters will still be available for purchase at the Mathews Market Days Information Booth on Saturday, Sept. 11, said a press release. This year’s one-day festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The poster was created from a painting by W. Langley Deagle Sr. of the buyboat “Lavenia H.” It depicts the Mathews County vessel gliding through the water.
Deagle will be awarded a check for $650 for his artwork during the festival’s opening ceremony at 9 a.m. The artist will also be present following the opening ceremony to sign posters purchased at Market Days.
“More information is to be released in upcoming weeks as we continue to prepare for this year’s event,” said Market Days Chair Morgan Hudgins in the release. “We appreciate everyone’s understanding and hope to see you on Saturday, Sept. 11.”
