FAY SALMON CLARK

Fay Salmon Clark, age 87, of Hayes, died on January 21, 2025. Fay was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky, on August 29, 1937 to the late Wilmer Henry Salmon and Evelyn Mallicotte Huber. Fay retired in 2001 as an elementary school principal of the York County Public School System at Grafton Bethel and Mount Vernon elementary schools where she loved her students and staff. Fay was awarded the “National Distinguished Elementary School Principal” for the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1988. Fay graduated from Longwood University with a degree in Elementary Education and obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from the College of William & Mary. She was also a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown. She was preceded in death by her son, James Thomas “Tom” Clark IV, and husband, Major James Thomas Clark III, USA-retired. She is survived by her husband, William E. Kelsch; her daughter, Carol Clark Simmers (Steve); stepdaughter, Andrea Staskiel (Dwayne); step-grandchildren, Nathan and Drew, and sister, Wilma Salmon Robinson. The family received friends on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Hogg Funeral Home from 2-3 p.m., followed by a 3 o’clock chapel service conducted by the Rev. Carleton Bakkum. There was a private inurnment at Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, Va. 23606.
