Virginia State Police reported a single-vehicle accident resulting in a fatality on Tuesday morning, Feb. 1, in Mathews.The crash occurred on Route 611 (Church Street) south of Route 14 (John Clayton Memorial Highway).
The driver of a 2015 Ford Mustang, 49-year-old Chad Andrew Green, was traveling at a high rate of speed, southbound Route 611, when he lost control of the vehicle, ran off the shoulder, over-corrected, causing him to run off the road left into the oncoming traffic lane.
The vehicle continued past the traffic lane, striking a ditch, and became airborne, landing and striking several trees. Green was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and died of his injuries upon impact, according to Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the VSP. State Police received the call shortly after 1 a.m., she said.
This was the first fatality of 2022 in Mathews.
