A fashion exhibit opens Saturday at the Mathews Museum, 200 Main Street, as the museum places an emphasis on Women’s History Month in March.
Ladies Victorian, a business founded by Marilyn Iglesias and Kim Forslund, will present “Women’s Fashion from the 1600s to the 1900s.” Exhibit committee member Dale Robinson described the pieces as “lovingly stitched styles, true to the times.”
Iglesias and Forslund met over 20 years ago as docents at historical museums in Newport News, recognized their mutual interests, and created their fashion business.
Panel discussion
The museum will also feature female business owners in a panel discussion at 7 p.m. Friday, March 21.
Participants will include Janice Jones, founder and owner of Roane’s Antiques at The Cottage on Main Street. Jones began her career in the 1980s by redoing old furniture and discarded items to bring them back to life.
