The historic Thomas Calhoun Walker House in Gloucester is expected to have its exterior renovations completed in a few weeks, according to project manager Bob Baer of Mark Turner Construction.
“We are currently scheduled to complete (exterior renovations) during the second week of December,” said Baer.
The house, on Main Street, was the home of lawyer, county supervisor, school superintendent and civil rights leader T.C. Walker. The house has been owned by Hampton University since 1977.
When asked about interior renovations for the T.C. Walker House, Baer said that “that is a second phase and that we will be bidding it.”
He said that he did not have an exact date for when phase two will go out to bid, but expects it will be soon.
“We are anxious,” said Baer. “I know that everyone is anxious to see it (the project) wrapped up. We are working on finishing up the roofing this week. The siding is ongoing. (We) pretty much finished all of the rough carpentry repairs. I think the brick venee...
