Quite an excitement was raised around Susan on last Saturday by the upsetting to two small boats containing seven people. Misses Ruby and Julia Miller and little Miss Laura Williams, of Newport News, who was visiting them, went a short distance from their home to witness a baptizing, taking a young man, to scull the skiff. Mr. Luther Jarvis, Miss Sadie Ripley and Mr. John Hudgins were out in another boat, and in attempting to get from one boat to the other both skiffs were turned over. The taller ones could by standing on tiptoe keep their noses above water. The young man clutched Mr. Hudgins around his neck and held on. Miss Sadie Ripley had the presence of mind to hold little Miss Williams above water, the crowd on the shore screamed and Mrs. Williams, the mother of little Laura, fainted.
