MAY FAIRE MEETING: The Mathews Museum will hold an open meeting at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the museum at 200 Main Street, Mathews, to receive input on its upcoming annual festival, May Faire. The event will be held May 2-3 with the theme: “A Rural Life: Country Stores, Post Offices and Wharfs.”
MOVIE NIGHT: “Freedom’s Fortress,” a 30-minute documentary that depicts the story of thousands of enslaved Africans who escaped and found refuge at Fort Monroe, will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday at the Mathews Museum, 200 Main Street, Mathews. It is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30.

CHILI COOK-OFF: The Mathews Rotary Club will hold its ninth annual Chili Cook-Off from 4:30-7 p.m. on Feb. 8, Super Bowl Saturday. Take-out orders will be available for purchase at the door, and each of the six competing booths will have quarts available for sale after 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 for all you can eat, available at Chesapeake Bank, Haskins Bayside Auto, and the Mathews Visitor Center. Beer and wine available for purchase.

POSES FOR PAWS: Yoga for the Animals will be held from 10-11 a.m. Sunday at the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society shelter, 6620 Jackson Lane, Gloucester. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat and a water bottle. Visit the animals for 15 minutes before and after class. The cost is $25.
VALENTINES FOR PETS: The public is invited to help the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society make Valentines for homeless shelter animals from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the shelter, 6620 Jackson Lane, Gloucester. Free of charge, no registration required.

LIVING SHORELINES: Mary-Margaret McKinney, director of Coastal Restoration for Native Shorelines, a North Carolina company, will discuss Living Shorelines at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 1039 Williams Wharf Road, Mathews, as part of Mathews Land Conservancy’s lecture series. It is free and open to the public.
FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT: The Gloucester County Floodplain Management Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, in the press room of County Building One, 6467 Main Street, Gloucester.
WETLANDS BOARD: The Gloucester County Wetlands Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, in the colonial courthouse. After adjourning, the board will reconvene as the Chesapeake Bay Preservation and Erosion Commission.
