Evelyn DeMay Beyer, 90, passed away on Nov. 9, 2013 in the Gloucester House.
She was born in Masury, Ohio, to the late Cyril and Rose Starr DeMay, one of seven children. She graduated from Ohio State University in 1942, and was among the first groups of women to be awarded scholarship housing at OSU.
On Nov. 20, 1943, she married a young serviceman, George L. Beyer. She was in the December 1943 graduating class of the Curtis Wright Cadet Corps at Penn State University, helping build and maintain airplanes during WWII.
She taught at Groveton High School in Fairfax County for 20 years. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Alexandria, Va., and attended St. Therese Catholic Church in Gloucester.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Judith A. Murin and son, William D. Beyer.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet B. Daum and her husband Stephen, son-in-law, William J. Murin; daughter-in-law, Linda Beyer; grandchildren, Bryn Beyer, Alan Murin and his wife Laura, Scott Murin and his wife Beth, and Andrew Daum; great-grandchildren, Mikayla Murin, Destiny Daum and Nathan Daum.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church by Father James Cowles.
