Euretta Belvin Sturgeon, age 89, of Hayes, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, June 19, 2023. Euretta was born on March 4, 1934, in Cincinnati Ohio, to the late Alex and Beatrice Farris. Her family relocated to Mathews, Virginia, in the 1940s. Euretta graduated from Botetourt High School in 1953 as the Class Secretary and Salutatorian and graduated from the College of William and Mary. Euretta met the love of her life, George Belvin, and they were married on June 5, 1955. Together they owned and operated the Tidemill Restaurant in Hayes for 22 years. She retired as a civil servant after 30 years at the Naval Weapons Station in the Budget Department. After losing George in 1984, Euretta met and married a wonderful man, Howard Sturgeon, who passed away in 1998. Euretta was known as “Granny” by all. She had a heart as big as the ocean and welcomed everyone in. Granny loved her children and grandchildren fiercely and nothing made her happier than being together. She will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Beatrice; husbands, George and Howard; two sisters, Gladys Nicholas and Joyce Sturgeon, and brother, Raymond Farris. She is survived by her devoted son, Mark Belvin (wife Karen), and loving daughter, Tara Hearn (husband William); brothers, Alex Farris of Ohio, and Earl Farris of New York. A grandmother’s love is forever and always. Granny will be honored with loving memories and by the wisdom she shared with her loving grandchildren, Jessica Belvin Coker (Timmy), Ryan Patrick, Holden Patrick, Joshua Belvin, and Harlee Patrick (Will). She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Aniston Patrick, Carter Belvin, Landon Patrick, and Alexander Thorpe. The family received friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, from 6-7:30 p.m. Burial will be private.
