Eunice “Murielene” Hodges Swindeck of Gloucester Point, passed away on January 16, 2023, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. She was born on December 30, 1935, on a Monday morning in Rocky Mount, Virginia. She was a 1954 graduate of Jefferson High School in Roanoke. After 16 years in private industry, Murielene spent 41 years with the Department of the Navy, retiring from the Navy Munitions Command CONUS East Division, Yorktown, Virginia in July 2010. Murielene was a member of Gloucester Point Baptist Church since 1962, the Ware River Circle of The King’s Daughters & Sons, and the Middle Peninsula Fine Arts Association. She was formerly an appointed member of the Gloucester County Transportation Safety Commission. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Bernard Swindeck; parents, William Dennis and Goldie Jones Hodges, and sister, Betty Jean Hodges Stoneman. She is survived by her devoted son, William Bernard Swindeck of Gloucester Point; nieces, Lisa Stoneman and husband Chuck Akers and Jennifer Stoneman, of Roanoke, Virginia; great-niece, Hannah Updike of Richmond, Virginia; great-nephew, Nick Updike and wife Renee Crider of Roanoke; several cousins, and many loving friends. The funeral service conducted by the Rev. Ray Goude Jr. will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2023 in the chapel of Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point, with viewing from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Following the service, Murielene will be buried at Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery, on Providence Road, Hayes.
