Esther L. Emerson, age 78, daughter of the late Peter West and Addie Brown West, died at her home in Gloucester on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was a classic southern cook at Mrs. Sutton’s Restaurant and loved to serve the children at Page Middle School located on Route 17 before the 2011 tornado tore it down. Esther was a die-hard Dallas football fan, faithfully watching Sunday and Monday night games. Her family said they could hear her saying “get um, get um” from her recliner. She is survived by her children, Johnnie Emerson (Kristy), and Cindy Taylor (Rob); grandchildren, Stephanie Wells (Chris), Brian Emerson, and Chris Taylor; great-grandchildren, Aundrea Wells, Christian Wells, and sister, Anne Hall. The family received friends Monday, Feb. 13, 2023, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home. A funeral service conducted by Pastor Richard Whiteheart was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023, in the chapel of Hogg Funeral Home followed by interment at Gloucester Point Cemetery.
