A Gloucester teenager in the custody of a Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center officer escaped at a local counseling center Monday but was taken back into custody by Gloucester Sheriff’s Office deputies about five hours later. The GSO said the teen fled from his detention officer at the Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Counseling Center at Ark at about 12:10 p.m. The teen had been transported to the center from Merrimac for a counseling session. The GSO said sheriff’s deputies completed an exhaustive search of the woods and neighborhoods that surround the counseling center without finding the 17-year-old male. A tip later in the afternoon led deputies to the area of Duval Avenue in the Court House, the GSO said, where Gloucester Sheriff Darrell Warren noticed a suspicious vehicle which was driven by the teen attempting to elude contact with law enforcement.
