The Environmental Protection Agency has released its report on 2012 Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Large Facilities for landfills and industrial sites across the country.
According to the report, which was based on information submitted by the facilities themselves, the Middle Peninsula Landfill in Gloucester, owned and operated by Waste Management, Inc., emitted a total of 94,406 metric tons of greenhouse gases during 2012. This emissions number includes 745 metric tons of carbon dioxide, 93,547 metric tons of methane, and 114 metric tons of nitrous oxide.
