ELVA LORRAINE MALKEMUS

The family is saddened to announce the passing of Elva Lorraine Malkemus, 88, on Sunday, July 9, 2023. Elva Lorraine was a resident of Bolivia, N.C., for the last four years and a longtime resident of Gloucester, Va., and Poughkeepsie, New York. Elva Lorraine was born in Maryus, Va., on Oct. 17, 1934 to the late Rufus and Mary Haywood Hall. Elva Lorraine leaves behind her beloved husband of 70 years, Donald I. Malkemus. Elva Lorraine was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Apostles Lutheran Church in Gloucester. She enjoyed her time volunteering, especially all the fun times she had with the quilting group at Apostles. Elva Lorraine was also a member of Gloucester Lions Club for several years. Elva Lorraine retired from IBM Fishkill, N.Y., then returned to her home town of Virginia for almost 30 years. Elva Lorraine and Don enjoyed traveling the world, including their favorite trips to Hawaii. In addition to Elva Lorraine’s husband, she is survived by her sons, Kevin and his wife Linda of Charlotte, N.C., and Kenneth and his wife Jackie of Bolivia, N.C.; grandchildren, Michele, Christopher (Sabrina) and Ashley; great-grandchildren, Jordan (Whitney) and Dennie; great-great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Ava and Walker; several nieces and nephews, and many close friends. Elva Lorraine cherished the time spent with her special nephew, Preston Higgins, and her adopted nephew, Thom Butcher. Elva Lorraine was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Higgins and Bernice Haywood, and brothers, John, Everett and Bernard Hall. The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks for the wonderfully compassionate care she received during her stay at Universal Healthcare/Brunswick, N.C.

The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 6-7 p.m. Graveside service will be conducted by Pastor Jim Larsen at Gloucester Point Cemetery on Friday, July 14, 2023, at 11 a.m. In memory of Elva Lorraine, contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, Pa. 18901.
