ELSIE MAE HALL BELVIN

Elsie Mae Hall Belvin, age 88, of Hayes, Virginia, died on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, surrounded by family. Elsie was born on March 31, 1936 to the late Hobart Lee and Gladys Hogge Hall. She graduated from the first class of Gloucester High School on June 11, 1954, with honors. She was known for her infectious laugh and humor. Elsie was a great source of love and caring to her family, community and church. Her presence will be missed by everyone who knew her. Elsie married the love of her life, Thomas Alfred Belvin, in Union Baptist Church on October 27, 1956. In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Thomas Alfred Belvin; brother, Edwin Lee Hall, and daughter Cynthia Ann Belvin. Elsie is survived by her children, Thomas Wayne Belvin (Colleen) of Glen Allen and Harry Lee Belvin (Kelli) of Gloucester, and four grandchildren, Thomas Samuel Belvin (Elizabeth) of Mechanicsville, Benjamin Foster Belvin (Alexis) of Henrico, Jared Elijah Belvin of Lexington, Ky., and Abigail Cynthia Belvin of Richmond. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was a member of Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church for 69 years, where she was an integral part of the church family including teacher, choir member and pianist. She retired from the Gloucester Treasurer’s Office after 12 years of service in 1997. The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 6-7:30 p.m. The graveside service, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Michael Condrey, will be held at Gloucester Point Cemetery on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church at noon.
