Elmer Delbert Plessinger, 91, of Hayes, passed away Sept. 18, 2013 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital after a long illness.
Delbert was retired from Newport News City Water Plant. Delbert enjoyed being outside, farm life, animals and had a great love for horses, especially his Shetland pony, Piper. He will be missed by his entire family, but now he has been reunited with loved ones and all his animal companions, including his dog, Sheba.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Howard Plessinger; a sister, Virginia Moore, and a son, Stephen Plessinger.
He is survived by his children, Paul Plessinger and wife Linda, Howard Plessinger and wife Bonnie, Ruth Plessinger, David Plessinger and wife Cindy, and Jennie Plessinger; brother, Victor Plessinger; sisters, Alice Rittenhouse, May Clemmer and Betsy Detwiler; step-brothers, Billy Plessinger and Ronnie Plessinger; step-sisters, Louise Tredway, Liz Miller, Dorothy Barbel, and Nancy Jenkins; grandchildren, Kevin and Amy, Tina and Ron, Amy and Greg, Christopher and Veronica, Cassandra and Gary, Christina, Mark, John, Rondie and Chris, Robert and Chrissy, Michael and Lindsay, James, Scott and Jennifer, Kimberly, Daniel and Stephanie, Melanie, and Stephen; 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral service conducted by the Rev. Dr. Richard Croxton was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden. The family received friends prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
