Ellis M. Hogge, 85, of Hayes, died in his home on Saturday, October 21, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Curtis M. and Dorothy K. Hogge, and was born in his grandfather’s house in Severn, better known as Guinea, on October 15, 1938. Ellis graduated from Gloucester High School, class of 1956, and entered the NACA Apprentice School at the age of 17. NACA became NASA in 1958 and Ellis graduated from the NASA Apprentice School in 1961. He went on to retire from NASA following 38 years of service. At an early age, Ellis began playing baseball and softball, competing in a number of organized leagues until he was about 50 years old. When he began working at NASA, he became an avid golfer due to the fact that so many of his coworkers enjoyed golf. He fell in love with the game and spent a lot of time on the golf course. Ellis and Diane enjoyed traveling together and visited 15 countries during their several trips to Europe, and traveled to every state. Ellis particularly enjoyed the national parks, with Yosemite and Yellowstone being his favorites. More recently, Ellis and Diane enjoyed taking cruises and bus trips with their friends. Most of all, Ellis enjoyed the simple pleasures of family get-togethers. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments and enjoyed supporting them in their many activities, never missing a tennis match or baseball game.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Michael and twins, Arnold and Anthony; brother, Curtis Hogge and wife Doddie and their children, Norman and Stephen, and his father and mother-in-law, Mitchell and Naomi Hogge. Ellis is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Diane; son, Brian Hogge and wife Lisa and their children, Taylor and Tyler; daughter-in-law, Michelle Hogge and her sons, Brandon and Kyle; and brother-in-law, Raymond Burris and wife Fay. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 12:30-1:45 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home. The funeral service conducted by the Rev.
