Elizabeth Meehan Mason of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2014.
She was a native of Newport News and longtime resident of Salisbury, Md. Elizabeth was born Dec. 28, 1924 to Marriam Louise and Henry Benjamin Meehan.
Elizabeth attended St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church and St. Vincent School in Newport News.
Elizabeth enjoyed lifelong hobbies in stamp and coin collecting. Her grandfather, Lt. Cmdr. James Henry Meehan, traveled extensively and began her collections when she was a young child. Elizabeth loved to read and in her sixties entertained as “Bubbles” the clown.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving grandmother, Sallie Hansford Meehan; her loving aunt, Virginia Meehan Gay, and two grandsons, Jeffrey Selser and K. Scott Blanchard.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Melanie Campbell of Cadillac, Mich., and Melanie’s children, Connie, Tina and Joe. Elizabeth leaves her daughter, Linda Blanchard of Hayes, Va., and Linda’s children, Karen and Jimmie; Karen’s daughters, Erica and Chelsea and Jimmie’s sons, Keiran and Seth. Elizabeth is also survived by her daughter, Marriam Vaughn of Gainesville, Ga., and Marriam’s son, Alan of Hebron, Md., and Alan’s three sons, Nick, Matt and Ryan. Elizabeth leaves one son, Robert Rexroat of Gwynn’s Island, Va. and Nova Scotia, and his sons, Allen and Jeff; many great-grandchildren, and cousins, Ann Lee Reynolds of Hampton, Sallie Greene of Newport News, and James Gay of Georgia.
A graveside service will be conducted by Father Jacinto Garcia on Thursday, March 6 at 2 o’clock. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News.
