Elizabeth (Betty) Figg Hammond, age 80, of Tappahannock, Va., passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012 surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Leroy Hammond. She is survived by her son, David Hammond (Denise) of Tappahannock; daughters, Linda Dillard (Kenneth) of Warsaw, Brenda Lee (widow of William Lee Sr.) of Tappahannock and Susan Ray (Steve) of Mathews; nine grandchildren, Hank Packett, Sheila Howard, Bill Lee, Ashley Davis, Rachel Matthews, Eric Hammond, Aaron, Kyle and Daniel Ray; 12 great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; five step great-grandchildren, and a dear friend, Faye Davis.

Betty was a lifelong member of Beale Memorial Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held 3 p.m., Sunday, May 20, in Beale Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Bob McKinley officiating. Interment followed in Essex Cemetery. The family received friends on Saturday, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Marks-Bristow Funeral Home, Tappahannock.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, the American Cancer Society or Beale Memorial Baptist Church.
