ELIZABETH DUDLEY HUEGEL

Elizabeth “Liz” Dudley Huegel, age 63, of Wake, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 13, 2015 after her second battle with cancer.

She spent her last weeks surrounded by her family and blessed them with her humor, grace, honesty and strength.

She was born to the late Harrison and Cecilia Dudley on Nov. 24, 1951 in Worcester, Mass. She was raised on a farm in Haiti, S.D., and from there joined the USAF which moved her to the South where she met Robert Clements, her first husband and the father of her two daughters, JoElla and Mariah.

She settled in Virginia after being stationed at Langley and remained here for the rest of her life.

Liz attended night classes at Saint Leo University while working full time and raising two children.  She graduated with honors receiving her bachelor’s degree in Criminology. She retired from civil service as an Investigator with the Department of Defense. In her retirement she went “on the road” with her husband for a time and enjoyed seeing most of America. She also selflessly volunteered help for family and friends.

Liz leaves behind her husband, David Huegel; daughter, JoElla Hughes; daughter, Jeannie Clements; daughter, Mariah Venus; granddaughter, Corinne Hughes and son-in-law Johnnie Hughes; sister, Jackie Dudley; brother, George Dudley (Jeannie); sister, Ellen Welch (Dave); sister, JoAnn Brown (Doug); brother, John Dudley (Caroline), as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and a wealth of very good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Joelle Venus.

Liz was a member of PEO and Apostles Lutheran Church.

She was an amazing woman and will be best remembered for her beautiful smile. She was a strong, competent, skilled investigator, an incredibly talented artist, a gifted writer, a remarkably faithful, hardworking church member, an unflinchingly honest, devoted, and caring mother and a sassy, funny, loving, creative, beautiful and compassionate sister.
