Elizabeth A. “Betty” Maynard, 81, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2014, at The Newport Convalescent Center.

She was a native of Mathews County, Va., and had been a resident of the Peninsula since the 1950s, where she was a member of Parkview Baptist Church.

Mrs. Maynard retired from Central Fidelity Bank after many years of service. She was a wife, sister, aunt and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence C. Maynard; her parents, James and Gladys (née Hudgins) Arms, and sister, Mae Jacobsen.

Betty is survived by her brother, Nelson Arms of Warminster, Pa.; niece, Von Schwartz of Mount Laurel, N.J.; nephew, Greg Arms of Summit, N.J.; nephew, Peter Jacobsen of Virginia Beach, Va. She is also survived by great-nieces and great-nephews, Kristin, Elizabeth, Candice Ryann, Jennifer, Kathryn, Michael, Katie Sue, Jonathan, Margaret, Jon, Brandon and Ashleigh, as well as her friends, Betty and Bob Rough.

The family would like to thank Mrs. Maynard’s nurses, caregivers and all the staff at The Newport for the wonderful loving care she received during the last few months. The family received friends at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014, at Peninsula Funeral Home with a celebration of her life at 2 p.m. Interment was at Peninsula Memorial Park.
