Elisabeth Charlotte Bowers was received into the arms of her Lord and Savior on November 3, 2024. A beloved mother of two, grandmother of five, and great-grandmother of four, she passed away at the age of 88 in Gloucester, Va., leaving a void her family cannot fill.
Elisabeth was born in Landshut, Germany, on March 11, 1936 to Konrad and Franziska Hoefling. She attended vocational school until she met and married a United States Army soldier—the love of her life, Jesse Breece Bowers. As an Army wife she traveled back and forth between Germany and the United States until Jesse’s retirement settled them in Fayetteville, N.C.
Elisabeth was a devoted mother to her two daughters, giving them the best childhood possible. She prepared home-cooked meals each day and spent countless hours sewing their clothes, ensuring they always had the best to wear. One of her final sewing labors of love was crafting her daughter Joyce’s cherished wedding dress in 1989.
Elisabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jesse Bowers; her brother, Rudolf Hoefling, and her sister, Anna (Sonya) Hoefling. She is survived by her eldest daughter, Rebecca (Chris) Dreyfous, and their three children, Jeremy and Joshua Dreyfous and Sarah (Cole) Robertson; her youngest daughter, Joyce (Clark) Wilberg, and their two daughters, Kimberlee Wilberg and Kristen (Spencer) Bryson, and her four great-grandchildren Everett, Reese, Piper and Beckham.
A private family graveside service with interment next to her beloved husband, Jesse, will take place at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Spring Lake, N.C., at a future date.
