EDWIN WHITE DUNSTON

Edwin White “Pete” Dunston, 79, of Hayes, died at his home March 20, 2014.

Pete was retired from Cheatham Annex and a long time faithful and active member of Bethany United Methodist Church. Pete was a charter member of the Abingdon Rescue Squad. A former Captain with the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Department, Pete has been a dedicated volunteer fireman since he was a young man. He served with the Keep Virginia Green Organization and the Newton Fire Company, before joining the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Department. He has responded to many fires, automobile accidents and even water rescue, tirelessly helping with any situation. Pete was a member of the Abingdon Ruritan Club working diligently with all the activities of that organization as well.

Pete loved people and was always ready to assist anyone in need. He loved his country and his family and was very dedicated to his family. Pete touched the lives of so many people in the community and he will be missed deeply.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ellen Smith Dunston; parents, Edwin and Zelda Dunston, and son-in-law, George Woodhouse.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; children, Scott Andersen, Christi Newsome, William Dunston, Abigail Woodhouse Walker and husband Mike, Paul Belvin and wife Rhonda, David Belvin and wife Beth, Carlton Belvin and wife Betsy, Hope Jenkins and husband Mike and Alice Cruz and husband Ray; grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Benji, Lee, Whitney, Ashley, Jeremy, Tiffany, Brandon, Kayla, Dustin, Christopher, Nicholas, Alexis, Courtney, Heather, Brittany, Ashley and Jason; his sister, Berniece Dunston and husband Elwood; brothers, Donald Dunston and wife, Margaret and Mitchell Dunston and wife Barbara Jean; and a host of great-grandchildren.

A funeral service officiated by the Rev. Deborah T. Marion, the Rev. Arthur L. Wolz, Jr. and the Rev. Bill West was held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 1860 Hayes Road, Gloucester Point. The family received friends Monday, March 24, 2014 from 7- 8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
