On March 29, 2024, Edward “Eddie” Jason Campbell, 69, of Hayes, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home. This is not the end, as he lives on through his devoted wife of 29 years, Bonnie Campbell, and the countless others he influenced through his undeniable selflessness and everlasting kindness. He is also survived by his two siblings, Thomas Campbell (Sherry) and Sarah Byrd; sisters- and brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins—all of whom he loved eternally. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lena Mai and Thomas Gray Campbell.
Eddie was born in Montgomery, Alabama, but quickly relocated to Knoxville, Tennessee. He would go on to claim Tennessee as his home state and make this known by singing “Rocky Top” by the Osborne Brothers any chance that he got. He was a jack-of-all-trades and worked at Standard Wilson Glass Company in Tennessee for many years, alongside his brother Tommy. After moving to Virginia, he did construction work. When not being the workaholic he was, Eddie enjoyed sitting on his self-built porch with loved ones singing and laughing and cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers.
Few people can match the unconditional love and willingness to help that Eddie possessed. He was the official birthday cake maker for everyone and loved to cook for family and friends, especially at Thanksgiving. He also loved to play golf. If you needed it and he had it, it was yours. A lesson we all could learn from. Fly high, Mr. Campbell, you will be greatly missed. Until next time, good buddy.
