Edna Louise Dickins-Sydenstricker of Gloucester, passed away on Oct. 1, 2021.
Webb Dickins and Julia Armstrong-Dickins welcomed Edna into the world Nov. 4, 1939.
She moved around a lot as a child but attended Goldsboro High School. After which, she attended East Carolina Teachers College where she earned her Bachelor’s in Education. She would use this degree to go on to become a teacher.
Later deciding to move to Norfolk, Va., where she met her late husband, Robert Mason Sydenstricker, they married in 1971.
In 1986, they moved to Gloucester, with their son where she would remain for the rest of her life.
She will be remembered for her wit, charm, and overall happy demeanor. Edna had the ability to see the best in everyone no matter who they were or what they had done. She was loved by all who met her. She will be missed by all she had touched with her loving smile and open arms.
After a brave and resilient life, she is survived by her beloved brother, James Dickins and his wife Vicky; her son, Webb Sydenstricker; grandson, Aaron Sydenstricker, and two great-grandchildren, Kaylei and Jackson Sydenstricker. She embraced everyone in her family. She was an educator, a mother, and a “Me-Ma.”
We will be waiving a service per her request. She never wanted us to make a “fuss.” That being said, if you would like to honor her and rejoice in the blessing of her life we would love to hear stories and little anecdotes of her life and memories we all share. Feel free to reach out to any member of the family and share these loving stories of Edna. In lieu of flowers, we would like all donations made to any cancer research or directly to the local school systems.
Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory, Gloucester, is in charge of arrangements.
