EDNA HAYNES HICKS

Edna Haynes Hicks, 86, of Hayes, died Feb. 5, 2015 at Walter Reed Convalescent Center.

Edna was a 1945 graduate of Achilles High School and a member of Union Baptist Church for more than 75 years. She was devoted to her church where she played the organ for 50 years and taught the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class for 40 years. Edna loved her church and utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God.

She lived her life in such a way that always made time to help others valuing relationships above all. She never complained and was forever grateful for whatever time she could spend with her loved ones. In more recent years the time spent with her family and friends would always bring her joy. She trusted that God knew what He was doing through her, and she was determined to stay out of His way. Although she has left a huge gap in the lives of many, her legacy will be felt forever.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hicks; son, Robert Tal Hicks, and granddaughter, Casey Alderman.

She is survived by her daughter, Betty Jane Belch; son, William Ellis Hicks and wife Peggy; grandchildren, Robbie, Amy, Brandon and Bobbie; great-grandchildren, Christine, Lydia, Ayden, Logan, Robert and Christopher; sister-in-law, Betty Christler, and special aunt and friend, Marguerite Smith.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Richard Whiteheart and the Rev. Bill West were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, at Union Baptist Church. Interment followed in Gloucester Point Cemetery.

The family received friends Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, from 4-5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff of Walter Reed Convalescent Center and Riverside Walter Reed Hospice for the loving care and support given to our mother.
