Editorial: Your political letters

We surrender. Sort of.
We have tried to keep letters on politics under control, but some of our correspondents are relentless. It’s apparent, even with three months to go until the election, that some people who have already written us, will write again.
So, here are our new, revised, and possibly realistic rules for letters on any election, national, state or local. We will be publishing them repeatedly:
No more than one letter per month from any individual. If you have a letter in this week’s paper, you won’t appear again until Sept. 5 at the earliest, and then only if we have room.
Limit of 300 words (this notice has 184 words). If you can’t keep it short, we will make it short.
Finally, and this is not a rule but a desire, we are always happy to hear from new voices. And as always, we run letters as we have room, so long as they meet our published rules, here and in the box on the editorial page. We prefer letters on local topics.
Thank you for reading.
