The forecast for last Wednesday, March 5, called for a line of strong, possibly damaging thunderstorms and winds, passing through in the late afternoon. The forecast was correct. Considerable wind damage has been reported in Gloucester and Mathews.
We heeded the forecast and were ready to print the Gazette-Journal a bit early. We wanted our delivery drivers to get the paper to post offices, coin boxes and dealers, and to get back before the storm started.
The best laid plans … you know what happens. A freak unrelated power interruption happened about 11:30 a.m. and we could do no more. Power finally was restored after 6, and our dedicated staff came back to print, insert, label, and bundle the papers, and we got them out at dawn on Thursday.
