Friends, it is time to contact our members of Congress again about the U.S. Postal Service.
While on-time delivery through the Richmond center has improved, a new plan threatens to slow our mail again.
Now under discussion is a proposal for “operational improvements and corresponding refinements.” According to news reports, one part of the proposal will reduce pickup and delivery frequency in postal areas more than 50 miles from the service center.
This is us. These are postal customers in Gloucester and Mathews counties, more than 50 miles from the Richmond distribution area. These are the customers to whom we deliver a good portion of our newspapers by mail. These are the post offices on Gwynn’s Island, in Guinea, in Ware Neck, in every part of our counties.
“Better service,” apparently, means slower service.
