Editorial: Thank you for writing

Every week, we run a box (see this page) with guidelines on writing letters to the editor.
If you’re thinking of writing a letter, please take the time to review what we have written there.
We ask that letters be contained to 300 words or fewer. We say we won’t run more than one a month from a correspondent. We require that each letter bear the writer’s signature and contact information.
Beyond those basics, we state the following:
“We favor letters that thoughtfully respond to or offer perspective or content published in the Gazette-Journal, and on local or state issues.” Furthermore, “The Gazette-Journal will not accept letters which comment on articles published in other periodicals.” Also, “We do not accept letters that are primarily broad endorsements or attacks on political candidates or parties.”
