Editorial: Saving a landmark

It has been encouraging in recent months to see the extensive work accomplished on the T. C. Walker House on Gloucester’s Main Street. Vacant for years, it fell into a now-or-never condition, and “now” took place. The house is stable again.
The exterior work undertaken by the home’s owner, Hampton University, fixing everything from foundation to roof, has closed this old homeplace to the elements. The interior awaits another day.
Richelle Payne, speaking for Hampton U. where she is vice president for strategic communications and marketing, said, “While this effort marks a crucial initial phase, completing the renovation requires additional funding. The University invites … Gloucester to join in collaborative fundraising, highlighting the importance of a shared commitment to this significant endeavor.”
