The U.S. Postal Service, especially in the bottom-ranked Richmond District which serves our area, is having its troubles. Our representative and senators are trying to get to the bottom of severe problems in the state.
Now several U.S. Senators have submitted a bipartisan letter to USPS asking it to stop changes to the current “Delivering for America” plan until the current profound problems can be worked out.
About 30 years ago, USPS used a slogan “We Deliver for You.” This was a short take on its ancient creed, “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”
We would also like to see a pause in the rate increases (the second this year takes effect in July), not only first class but also periodical mail (which we, as a newspaper, pay), until the problems are worked out. Why charge more when you deliver less?
