Editorial: One small step

Today, Thursday, July 20, 2023, is the anniversary of an important date in world history.
On this day, 54 years ago, Neil Armstrong took one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. For a few days after he took that step, becoming the first man on the moon, geopolitical borders seemed to melt away.
Yes, it was an American accomplishment in the ongoing space race with the former Soviet Union, but it was something in which all human beings shared, whether they lived in Moscow, Russia or Moscow, Idaho. It was a victory for all humanity.
In today’s polarized climate, when next-door neighbors can argue about whether the sky is blue or the moon is round, it’s refreshing to reflect on that optimism and spirit of coming together … however short a time it lasted.
