It’s a new year, and Mathews County begins 2024 with three new members on its governing board—with two of those three new members serving in leadership roles, elected earlier this month as chairman and vice chair.
New Mathews Board of Supervisors Janice Phillips (who was elected chair at the board’s Jan. 3 organizational meeting, Tim Doss (who was elected vice chair) and Tom Bowen have joined David Jones and Mike Walls, who took office in 2022.
Along with the new board members, the Mathews County Board of Supervisors has a new meeting schedule for 2024. Instead of meeting on the fourth Tuesday of the month, the board has changed that to the third Thursday. This move was made to accommodate the county attorney, who had a conflict on Tuesdays, enabling her to attend more meetings. The board now meets at 6 p.m. on the third Thursday in the historic courthouse.
