Editorial: It’s not over yet

Recent events have proved the truth of an ancient saying that, “the wheels of justice turn slowly but grind exceedingly fine.”
A news item last week jolted the memories of Americans over 25 (or so) back to that terrible day in our history, Sept. 11, 2001.
Three of the lead conspirators, who have been in U.S. custody since 2003, had agreed to plead guilty to murdering nearly 3,000 Americans … in exchange for life sentences. As big news items erupt constantly, this development almost seemed to be a footnote to the day’s news.
It was reasoned that the cases of these three men, which have been mired in legal minutiae for almost two decades especially over concerns about the use of torture to extract confessions, might not otherwise have been resolved. The agreement promised a degree of closure for the families of those killed on 9/11, and also for the families of U.S. service members, thousands of them, who lost their lives in the subsequent war on terror.
