Peter and Diane Perina, owners of Eastfields Farms in Mathews, closed out their pick-your-own blueberry season this past weekend with their annual collection for the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society.
Diane Perina said all the blueberries picked were discounted for their last weekend, and even so, the farm raised $2,871 for the society.
Not all of this came from sales, she said, as customers dug deep and added to their total. Two people each gave $100 refusing change, she said.
She said, “there are so many hard times now,” adding that she and her husband were grateful for the caring exhibited by their customers.
