Easter steamboat excursion brings visitors to Mathews

The steamer Mobjack brought up the first Sunday excursion of the year on Easter and a large number of Mathews folks took advantage of the opportunity to visit relatives and friends here.
Manager Hutcheson of the Tidewater Telephone Company is in the county this week putting a new switchboard in the Mathews office. This should greatly help the service.

The Board of Supervisors held its regular monthly meeting at the Courthouse house last Thursday and business of a routine nature occupied a large part of the session. A.A. Nuttall was directed to cut a ditch in Ware Neck, beginning at the bottom leading from Luther Nuttall’s saw mill through I.H. Fox’s property and through W.W. Calvert’s property to a point on Ware River known as the ice pond, or so far as will be necessary to carry off the water; the cost of cutting such ditch not to exceed 20 cents per yard.
