Earth Day celebration April 23 at Machicomoco

Machicomoco State Park in Hayes will hold its Earth Day celebration from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 23.
For this celebration, the park is partnering with the Pamunkey Indian Museum and Cultural Center, Virginia Department of Forestry, Virginia Institute of Marine Science and the Fairfield Foundation. Each group will set up Exploration Stations for park-goers to visit and learn a variety of topics related to the park’s wildlife and cultural history.
There will also be a free art program for ages 12 and up, led by the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and VIMS. The two groups will introduce participants to the research being conducted at the park. William and Mary student Anna Melhorn will then lead guests in a one-hour watercolor and nature journaling session.
All art supplies will be provided. Registration is limited to 15 spots. To register for the free art program, contact mcguire@vims.edu.
