Early voting begins Friday

In-person voting for the 2022 general election begins Friday in Virginia, and registrar offices in both Gloucester and Mathews counties are prepared for those who decide to cast their ballots before Election Day, which falls on Nov. 8 this year.
In the statewide race, Republican Robert J. “Rob” Wittman, Democrat Herbert C. “Herb” Jones Jr. and independent candidate David Bruce Foster are running for the House of Representatives seat for the 1st District.
The only local race this year is in Mathews for the one year remaining on Jeanice Sadler’s term on the Mathews School Board. Lorraine Forrest and Dr. Marianne “Mari” Gibbs are the two candidates competing for this vacancy. Forrest currently serves on the board on an interim basis.
Registered voters in Mathews can participate in early voting at the Elections Office, located at 10604 Buckley Hall Road, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as on Oct. 29 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The la...
