A Dutton man died Wednesday, Oct. 23 after a single-vehicle motorcycle accident that occurred at 8:52 a.m., Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police reported.
Anaya said the accident occurred at Burkes Pond Road, Route 602, north of John Clayton Memorial Highway. She identified the victim as Richard Gregory Gibson Jr., 62, of Dutton, and said the accident revealed that Gibson was driving north on Burkes Pond Road when he ran off the roadway into a ditch.
Gibson was seriously injured and transported to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester County, Anaya said, where he later succumbed to his injuries. 
This was the sixth traffic fatality in Gloucester in 2024.
