Mathews County deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Twiggs Ferry Road in Dutton at around 10 a.m. Friday on a report of a man down on the ground.
Sheriff April Edwards said that further information revealed that there were actually two people on the ground, a man and a woman. Multiple units from the sheriff’s office responded to the scene, she said. Search warrants were obtained, and an investigation was conducted. It was determined that the bodies were those of Edward and Catherine Carr of Dutton.
Edwards said a preliminary investigation leads investigators to believe it may have been a murder/suicide that took place during the nighttime hours, but conclusive investigative reports from the office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Virginia Department of Forensic Science will need to be released before a final determination can be made.
