Dukes upset Kecoughtan, 73-70

The Gloucester High School varsity boys’ basketball team posted two wins and a loss in recent action. The Dukes upset Kecoughtan, 73-70, with a tie-breaking three-point shot from Ryan Wilson just before the buzzer on the GHS court Jan. 19.

The loss knocked the Warriors out of a three-way tie for second place. A.J. Hamilton led Gloucester with 22 points in the comeback win and Davonté Smith had 19.

Visiting Menchville outplayed the Dukes, 55-45, at GHS on Friday. The teams appeared evenly matched through three quarters, with Gloucester up, 37-33, going into the fourth, but the Monarchs poured in 22 points in the final period to get the win. Hamilton had 18 points in the loss and Christopher Morgan contributed 10.

The Dukes got back on the winning side Monday night at Warhill where they beat the winless Lions, 78-57. Morgan and Smith had 16 points each against the Group AA Bay Rivers District school.
