Gloucester High School golfers notched their sixth Peninsula District match win on the Cardinal Course at Deer Run in Newport News on Sept. 22. The win stretched the Dukes’ lead to 101 strokes over the nearest competitors from Woodside.
Two Gloucester players, Grinnan Haskins and Zach Robb, tied for medals with scores of 75 on the par-72 course. Trevor Rudisill turned in a 78 for the Dukes and Tyler Foster shot a 92.
Gloucester tallied 312 in the match, Woodside had 328 and Menchville and Kecoughtan tied at 347. Robb continues to hold the second-best average in the PD with 77.37 just behind Denbigh’s top golfer with 76.75. Haskins is fourth with an 80 average, Rudisill is ninth with an 85 and Foster is 13th with 88.5.
With one more match remaining, scheduled for yesterday at The Woodlands, the Dukes have secured the PD title and a spot in the Eastern Region Tournament. The regional event is slated for Monday and Tuesday at the Nansemond River Golf Club.
